Is it ethical to hack
a computer system just to learn how to counter illegal hacking?
In my own opinion, I agree that it
is ethical. Nowadays, the enormous development of Internet has gotten many
valuable stuffs like the email, google, netizen hubs, social networking, easy
access to vast information and many more. In connection, with the technological
advances in our recent scenario, there is also disadvantage with this which is
the criminal hackers who will secretly “steal” a group’s information and
transmit it to the open and exposed internet. Consequently, to overcome from
this very alarming issue, it is very practical to knowing how to prevail this
kind of illegal actions. And as far as I know, the best tool to lessen this
illegal hacking of computer system is to have the knowledge and understanding
on how to hack these systems. For me, it is a way of plugging-up internet and
data security holes. It is only “ethical” for me if it follows a working
strategy with high professional morals and principles without harming or
affecting anyone which has the ultimate goal of helping and protecting the
privacy of any individuals. And with this, if we already know how to hack a
system, we can now help others who were oppressed by illegal hacking by retrieving
what were lost from them and help them in assessing to secure and protect their
systems. In this way, it is more than ethical because you are helping others.
And if we have the skills to counter illegal hacking, we can now lessen the
illegal hackers to be able to attack a system or get access to certain
information because they are already warned that there is somebody who knows
how to hack systems in the same way. Thus, information technology environment
risks are reduced.
